The Arabic names and terms are, of course, originally written in Arabic script. In order to communicate using Roman letters (like these, used in English, French, Italian, etc.), the words must be transliterated from Arabic. Since this is not an exact science, but a phonetic approximation of the sound of the word, different spellings are used. I have tried at least to be consistent throughout the site. The trasliteration 'ud is more in line with the way it seems most Arabs pronounce the word than is oud, therefore that is what I have used here.
